Aero Launches on Seven Chains with Revenue-Based Rewards
Aero, the combined successor to Aerodrome and Velodrome, is launching across Base, Ethereum, OP Mainnet, Arc, Ink, Arbitrum and Robinhood Chain. Emissions from the two legacy protocols will end: AERO converts to new AERO at 1:1, while each VELO converts to 0.044 AERO. Self-custodied tokens require a manual, irreversible upgrade through the official portal; exchanges will handle conversions for customers.
Aero replaces weekly ve-token voting with Predictive Allocation. Holders convert veAERO or veVELO into transferable sAERO, retaining their remaining lock duration, then direct incentives to liquidity pools across seven chains from Base. Token issuers can also pay for liquidity, while sAERO holders can earn a share of protocol revenue. The first allocation round is scheduled for 23 October.
Aero is linking AERO emissions more closely to protocol revenue. Gauge Caps limit pool rewards based on estimated income, with a long-term target of average incentives at about 1.2 times projected revenue. Aero estimates annual issuance at roughly 8% under the new approach and current revenue, compared with a current rate near 11%; the annual inflation cap is 20%. Dynamic fees and a planned MEV tax are intended to support revenue for liquidity providers and sAERO holders.
The expansion includes cross-chain swaps, but historical revenue remains concentrated on Base: Aerodrome and Velodrome have generated about $580 million combined, including roughly $510 million from Aerodrome. The new AERO system could improve revenue alignment and broaden utility, while the token migration and cross-chain rollout may create short-term liquidity and trading uncertainty.
Neutral
The news is mixed for AERO, so the expected direct price impact is neutral. In the short term, ending legacy emissions and requiring self-custodied holders to complete an irreversible migration could cause uncertainty, temporary liquidity fragmentation or selling as traders assess conversion and lock-up terms. The multichain launch may also shift liquidity among venues. These factors could increase volatility, but the article provides no evidence of an immediate change in market demand or price.
Over the longer term, revenue-linked Gauge Caps, broader pool allocation and potential income from dynamic fees and a planned MEV tax could strengthen the token’s economic model if they deliver sustainable revenue and demand for sAERO. The projected reduction in annual issuance from about 11% to roughly 8% could also ease dilution pressure. However, the 20% inflation ceiling remains, and historical revenue is heavily concentrated on Base, so successful expansion and execution are not assured. Traders are likely to watch migration progress, liquidity, protocol revenue and sAERO demand before treating the redesign as a sustained catalyst.
