AltLayer Launches ’BLITZ’ Fast-Finality Network for Arbitrum Orbit Chains
AltLayer has launched BLITZ, a decentralized fast-finality network for Arbitrum Orbit chains, developed in collaboration with Babylon. This network leverages Bitcoin (BTC) staking for economic collateral, addressing the slow finality issues faced by Ethereum rollups, which usually take about 13 minutes to finalize a block. BLITZ improves upon these finality times, enhancing security and efficiency for applications on Orbit chains, which are often latency-sensitive, such as games and social apps. It integrates BTC staking through Babylon’s protocol, allowing BTC holders to stake directly on the Bitcoin chain. The design offers fast-finality, crypto-economic security, and native BTC staking to bolster the overall security and operation of Orbit chains. BTC stakers contribute to this network by providing signed commitments to L2 blocks that are backed by a sufficient amount of BTC, ultimately securing the finality of these transactions.
