Claude Haiku 5.5 Cuts AI Costs by 75%

Anthropic has launched Claude Haiku 5.5, its fastest, most capable and lowest-cost small AI model to date. Claude Haiku 5.5 is aimed at high-volume tasks such as summarisation, database queries, customer support and browser operations, and is the first Haiku model with adjustable reasoning intensity. Anthropic says its average operating cost is about 75% below Haiku 4.5. For requests up to 100,000 tokens, pricing is $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens; higher rates apply to longer prompts. Anthropic also cut Sonnet 5.5 cache-read prices by 50%, estimating this could lower costs for most agent tasks by around 20%, and announced monthly API credits for eligible Max and Team subscribers. Lower AI costs may benefit applications and agents used in crypto and Web3, but the news reports no direct cryptocurrency market impact.
Neutral
The launch concerns AI model pricing and does not mention a specific cryptocurrency or provide a direct catalyst for any crypto asset’s price. In the short term, traders may note the potential for lower operating costs for AI agents and Web3 applications, but the announcement alone is unlikely to materially affect crypto prices or market stability. Over the longer term, cheaper AI infrastructure could support development and adoption of crypto-related tools, yet any benefit to token demand would be indirect and uncertain. On the evidence provided, the expected price impact on cryptocurrencies is neutral.
