Anthropic Merges Cowork AI Agents Into Claude Chat

Anthropic is phasing out the standalone Cowork mode and merging its AI agent capabilities into the default Claude chat. Claude will decide whether a prompt needs a quick answer or a long-running task that can continue for hours, including after the user closes a laptop. The Cowork merger is rolling out first to Pro and Max users across web, desktop and mobile, with Team and Free users to follow. Enterprise administrators will receive at least 30 days’ notice. Existing Cowork tasks, projects, connectors and skills will remain available, while chat history and tasks will appear together in the Recent list. Web search will become automatic, and Research can be launched with the /deep-research command or the plus button. Users retain control: Claude normally asks for approval before acting, but can be configured to work continuously and request confirmation only when necessary. Anthropic also introduced Claude Docs and Claude Slides, with shareable outputs and mobile editing. The Cowork merger simplifies the user interface but gives Claude greater responsibility for judging task complexity and duration. For traders, the announcement highlights intensifying competition in AI agents and could support sentiment around Anthropic’s ecosystem, but it has no direct cryptocurrency catalyst.
Neutral
The expected crypto-market impact is neutral because the announcement concerns Anthropic’s product architecture and AI agent strategy, not a cryptocurrency, blockchain network or token. In the short term, traders may view the Cowork merger as evidence of stronger competition in the AI software sector. That could benefit sentiment toward AI-linked crypto narratives if investors generalise enthusiasm from traditional AI platforms to related tokens. However, such spillover is likely to be limited and speculative. There is no reported token launch, partnership, funding event or usage metric that would create direct buying pressure. Similar AI product launches have often produced brief narrative-driven moves in AI-related crypto assets, followed by reversals when attention shifts to broader market liquidity, Bitcoin direction and macroeconomic data. Longer term, more capable AI agents could increase demand for decentralised computing, data and automation projects, but that thesis depends on actual integrations and revenue rather than this product update alone. Traders should therefore monitor AI-token volume, sector-relative performance, BTC volatility and follow-up partnerships before treating the news as a directional signal.
