ArDrive v2.90.0 Adds Snapshots and Faster Syncing

ArDrive v2.90.0 adds drive-state snapshots and speeds up browser database access, alongside updates to drive sharing, previews and uploads. The release is relevant to users of Arweave (AR), but does not announce a token or change to the network itself. ArDrive snapshots publish a drive’s state as a single SQLite file. During sync, the app checks for the latest snapshot before replaying drive history; if snapshot retrieval fails, it falls back to a normal sync. The browser app also moves its local database to SQLite on OPFS, with IndexedDB as a fallback. The team reports that reopening the database now takes about 0.08 seconds, down from 3.5 seconds, and large writes are less likely to freeze the page. Other changes include opening shared drives without logging in, clearer sync and upload flows, streaming previews with download progress, and faster first syncs for older drives. The release also improves wallet-paid AR uploads by retrying rejected chunks and preventing re-upload from charging again. Existing user settings reset to defaults as part of a configuration-version change.
Neutral
The release is a product and usability update for ArDrive, an application associated with Arweave, rather than a change to AR token economics, network security, or protocol rules. It therefore has no clear direct catalyst for AR price or broader market stability. Traders should not treat the reported performance improvements as evidence of an immediate change in token demand. In the short term, the announcement could draw attention to Arweave’s storage ecosystem and prompt modest speculative interest, but any price response is likely to be limited and overshadowed by wider crypto-market conditions, liquidity, and AR-specific trading activity. Similar application updates in crypto have generally had a more direct effect on user experience and developer sentiment than on token prices unless they are accompanied by measurable adoption or usage growth. Over the longer term, faster syncing, snapshots and more reliable uploads could improve the experience for ArDrive users and support ecosystem engagement. A sustained increase in active users, storage activity, or AR transactions would be more meaningful for market sentiment. Those outcomes are not quantified in this release, so the overall assessment remains neutral.
