Yuga Labs launches Mudwater cards with APE rewards

Yuga Labs launched Mudwater, a physical and digital trading-card project linked to Solana NFTs, on 17 October 2026. BAYC and MAYC holders received 6,551 Totems, which they can use to claim packs through 19 January 2027. Each BAYC NFT qualifies for 10 packs and each MAYC NFT for two; each pack contains 10 cards. The later update says more than 140,000 packs are available to claim, while an earlier report cited plans for 10,000 boxes. The debut set, “Swamp Origins,” features 120 artworks, including rare foil, numbered and “cracked-ice” cards. The latest report specifies eight serialized one-of-one cracked-ice cards. Each physical card is paired with a Solana NFT held in a vault. Mudwater is tradable on OpenSea, and upgrades to larger pack formats are planned. Mudwater transactions include a 2.5% reflection used to buy ApeCoin (APE), with the tokens distributed to collectors in proportion to their Mudwater card holdings. The project gives BAYC and MAYC holders a new collectible and potential secondary-market activity. Any effect on APE is likely to be limited and will depend on trading volume and collector demand.
Neutral
The most direct potential price effect is on ApeCoin (APE): Mudwater’s 2.5% transaction reflection is used to buy APE, creating a source of purchase demand when card trading occurs. In the short term, however, the effect is likely to be modest and tied to actual Mudwater trading activity, rather than the headline pack-claim numbers. Traders may watch card volumes, secondary-market prices and the amount of APE bought and distributed. Over the longer term, sustained collector interest and active trading could provide recurring APE demand. But the summaries give no evidence that this mechanism is large enough to materially change APE’s supply-demand balance. NFT-related launches can also see attention fade after an initial burst. With uncertain uptake and no demonstrated broad market effect, a neutral classification is appropriate.
