Binance holds 68.7% of tracked exchange crypto reserves
Binance held about $165 billion in crypto reserves on October 1, equal to 68.7% of the $240.2 billion tracked across eight major centralized exchanges. Its reserves rose from $154.3 billion in September, partly because of higher prices and partly due to deposits.
Binance recorded net inflows of 25,155 BTC during the month, while its seven largest rivals saw combined outflows of about 3,950 BTC. Bitcoin makes up roughly 34% of Binance’s reserves, followed by USDT at 19% and BNB at 16.5%. The exchange reported reserve ratios of at least 100% for major assets, including 100.35% for BTC and 103.88% for USDT.
The figures highlight Binance’s scale and continued Bitcoin inflows, but also raise concerns about crypto exchange concentration. Proof of reserves offers a snapshot of assets against customer balances; it does not show every liability. Traders may watch future BTC flows, Binance’s BNB exposure and reserve ratios for signs of changing confidence or liquidity risk.
Neutral
The report is neutral for the broader crypto market. Binance’s net inflow of 25,155 BTC, while seven major rivals recorded combined outflows, may signal that traders are consolidating activity on the exchange. Its reported reserve ratios of at least 100% for major assets may also reassure customers and reduce immediate concerns about deposit backing.
However, exchange inflows do not necessarily mean investors are buying; coins can move between platforms or into custody, so the figures alone do not establish bullish demand. The concentration is also a risk: Binance accounts for nearly 69% of the reserves tracked across eight exchanges, leaving a large share of exchange liquidity dependent on one venue. Proof-of-reserves snapshots show assets at a particular time but do not disclose every liability.
In the short term, traders may treat the data as a modest confidence signal while watching BTC flows, exchange balances and market liquidity. A reversal in flows or falling reserve ratios could renew concerns, while continued inflows may reinforce confidence in Binance. Over the longer term, the key issue is whether reserve concentration persists and whether independent reporting provides a fuller view of exchange liabilities. As with post-FTX proof-of-reserves announcements, transparency can support confidence, but it does not by itself eliminate counterparty risk.
