BitBox Adds Lightning Bitcoin Wallet Without a New Seed
BitBox has added a Lightning Network wallet to its mobile BitBoxApp, allowing hardware-wallet users to make faster Bitcoin payments without switching apps or using third-party services. The Lightning wallet is derived from the user’s existing BitBox backup, so no new recovery phrase is required, while the Lightning and on-chain wallets remain separate.
The Lightning wallet is designed as a hot wallet for small balances and everyday spending. Users can scan and pay Lightning invoices, send and receive Bitcoin, claim a Lightning address, transfer funds from their on-chain wallet, and sweep funds back to hardware-wallet storage. Long-term holdings can remain secured by the BitBox device.
The integration uses the Breez SDK and Spark infrastructure. Breez said its SDK now has more than 100 integration partners. The feature is self-custodial and removes the need for users to operate a Lightning node, open payment channels, or manage liquidity. For traders, the launch is a positive adoption signal for Bitcoin and Lightning usability, although its immediate impact on BTC price is likely to be limited.
