Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF Outflows Deepen October Pressure

US spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs continued to see heavy withdrawals in early October. One report put net outflows at $311.9 million on Oct. 6, while another recorded $316.6 million on Oct. 8: $244.1 million from Bitcoin ETFs and $72.5 million from Ethereum ETFs. Bitcoin funds also lost $484.9 million on Oct. 7. The reports describe eight consecutive days of crypto ETF outflows, totalling $641.3 million; by early October, reported withdrawals had reached about $407 million for Bitcoin ETFs and $579 million for Ethereum ETFs. Fidelity’s FBTC led Bitcoin fund outflows on Oct. 8 with $197.1 million, while BlackRock’s ETHA saw $71.1 million leave, partly offset by $5.5 million of inflows to Fidelity’s FETH. This reversal followed more than $3.3 billion in late-September inflows to Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and XRP ETFs. On Oct. 8, Bitcoin traded near $82,660 and Ether around $2,500, as 24-hour crypto liquidations reached roughly $1.19 billion. Persistent ETF outflows signal weaker fund demand and may pressure sentiment, but flows alone do not determine spot-price direction or confirm that the usual October rally has failed.
Bearish
Sustained Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF outflows point to weaker demand for exposure through regulated funds and can add short-term selling pressure to sentiment, particularly after several consecutive sessions of withdrawals. The reported price declines and elevated liquidations may make traders more cautious and increase volatility. However, ETF flows are not a direct measure of all spot-market demand, and the reports do not establish that withdrawals caused the price moves. The late-September inflows also show that fund demand can change quickly. If outflows persist, they could weigh on BTC and ETH over the near term; if flows stabilise or reverse, the pressure may ease. Overall, the news is bearish for the mentioned assets, but it is not by itself conclusive evidence of a sustained long-term downtrend.
