Bitcoin Drops Below $80K, Rebounds but Remains Volatile

Bitcoin extended its decline from near $84,000, first reaching a reported monthly low of $80,200 and later briefly falling below $80,000. It then rebounded by nearly $3,000, but sellers emerged near $83,000; Bitcoin was most recently trading around $81,500, below $82,000. Its market capitalisation was about $1.63 trillion, while Bitcoin dominance slipped from above 60% to below that level. Selling spread across altcoins. Ethereum fell to a two-month low of $2,315 before recovering to around $2,370, while XRP traded near $1.31, down 2.4%, and ZEC fell 5.2% after losing the $1,200 level. ZRO, STRK and PYTH posted double-digit losses. The total crypto market capitalisation fell by roughly $100 billion in the earlier report and was later put at $2.74 trillion, down 1% over 24 hours. Higher-than-expected September inflation and weakness in Asian equity markets, including a sharp fall in South Korea’s KOSPI, added to pressure on risk assets. Bitcoin’s failed recovery and broad altcoin losses point to fragile sentiment and elevated short-term volatility for crypto traders.
Bearish
The near-term signal for Bitcoin is bearish: it fell below $80,000, could not hold a rebound near $83,000 and remained below $82,000. The drop from around $84,000, alongside weaker Bitcoin dominance and broad selling across crypto, suggests traders are reducing risk rather than buying the dip with conviction. Higher-than-expected inflation and weakness in Asian equities add to that pressure. Sharp rebounds can trigger short-covering, but until Bitcoin recovers and holds key levels, volatility and renewed downside remain risks. The longer-term effect is less certain. A single inflation report and equity-market decline do not establish a lasting trend, and Bitcoin’s recovery from below $80,000 shows buyers were active at lower levels. Traders will likely watch inflation expectations, wider risk appetite, trading volume and whether Bitcoin can reclaim the $82,000-$83,000 area. Continued weakness could reinforce defensive positioning; a sustained recovery may ease immediate selling pressure.
