Bitcoin Stays 32% Below Record as Recovery Faces Risks
Bitcoin is trading near $85,300, around 32% below its record high of approximately $126,000 reached in October 2025. Strong spot Bitcoin ETF inflows and “Uptober” sentiment helped drive the rally to that peak.
Bitcoin later fell to roughly $58,000–$60,000 in late June and early July 2026 as macroeconomic concerns and a tariff-related liquidation event pressured risk assets. It has since rebounded about 45% from the summer low, lifting its estimated market capitalisation to nearly $1.7 trillion.
The latest drawdown is milder than previous Bitcoin bear markets, when one-year declines after major peaks reached about 70% to 82%. Lower leverage, institutional participation, spot ETF demand and reduced volatility have supported market resilience. However, more than a 30% decline remains historically common, and comparable recoveries have taken roughly 28 to 38 months.
Traders should monitor Bitcoin ETF flows, trade and tariff policy, regulation, Treasury yields and broader macroeconomic conditions. Sustained ETF inflows and short covering could support Bitcoin, while renewed outflows, higher yields or adverse policy headlines could trigger further volatility. The recovery outlook is improving, but the market may still be in an early repair phase.
Neutral
The news is neutral for Bitcoin. In the short term, the roughly 45% rebound from the summer low, institutional ETF demand and reduced leverage provide support. ETF inflows and short covering could produce further upside, while lower volatility may reduce the risk of disorderly liquidations.
However, Bitcoin remains about 32% below its record high, and historical recoveries from comparable drawdowns have often taken years. Neutral-to-bearish options positioning, elevated Treasury yields, macroeconomic uncertainty, tariff risks and the possibility of renewed ETF outflows could limit gains or trigger another decline. The milder drawdown improves market resilience but does not confirm a new sustained uptrend, so the likely immediate effect is balanced rather than clearly bullish or bearish.
