Bitcoin Reclaims $81K as Oil Shock Lifts Bond Yields

Bitcoin rose 6% to a local high of $81,034 as global oil-supply concerns pushed US bond yields higher. The rally occurred near the start of Friday’s Wall Street session and triggered roughly $250 million in cross-crypto short liquidations within four hours. US 30-year Treasury yields reached 5.34%, while WTI crude climbed towards $98 a barrel after falling to $94.80. The International Energy Agency warned that prolonged constraints on Gulf supplies and rapidly declining inventories could require higher prices and weaker demand to balance the market. Oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz were estimated at 7.6 million barrels per day in August, 13.1 million below pre-conflict levels. Bitcoin’s next major test is near $82,000. Analyst Rekt Capital warned that failure to break this level could create a double-rejection pattern similar to the failed rebound in May. Bitcoin has reclaimed its True Market Mean, estimated by Glassnode at $76,660, signalling a return to a bullish regime. The cost basis of corporate Bitcoin treasuries is around $80,500, making the current price range technically significant. For traders, Bitcoin’s momentum is positive in the short term, but rising bond yields, energy inflation and potential interest-rate pressures could increase volatility.
Bullish
The immediate market impact is bullish because Bitcoin broke above $80,000, reclaimed its True Market Mean near $76,660 and forced about $250 million in short liquidations. These developments can support follow-through buying and create a short squeeze, particularly if BTC breaks and holds above the $82,000 resistance level. However, the rally is occurring alongside rising US 30-year Treasury yields and renewed oil-supply stress. Higher yields typically tighten financial conditions and can pressure risk assets, while elevated energy prices may increase inflation expectations and delay monetary easing. Similar episodes of short-covering rallies have often produced strong initial gains but later volatility when macroeconomic conditions remain restrictive. In the short term, traders may focus on the $80,500 corporate-treasury cost basis and the $82,000 breakout threshold. A sustained break above $82,000 could reinforce bullish momentum, while rejection may trigger profit-taking and expose Bitcoin to a retest of lower support levels. Over the longer term, persistent oil disruption and higher yields remain risks to crypto liquidity, so the bullish signal is constructive but not definitive.
