Bitcoin Tests $80K as Altcoins Post Weekly Losses
Bitcoin fell to a five-week low of $79,100 on Saturday before rebounding to about $80,900. It is now struggling to hold above $80,000. Bitcoin’s market capitalisation stood at $1.61 trillion, while its dominance remained at 60%.
The broader crypto market was mostly lower for the week. Ethereum fell nearly 4% to around $2,330, XRP remained below $1.30, and Solana dropped 3% to $101. NEAR, RAIN, AVAX, AAVE and HBAR were among the sharper decliners. PEPE gained 13% for the week, while M rose 25% despite a steep 24-hour drop. XMR, ZEC and BNB also edged higher.
The total crypto market capitalisation fell below $2.7 trillion. Bitcoin’s ability to hold $80,000 is a key near-term focus for traders, while continued weakness across altcoins points to cautious market sentiment.
Bearish
The near-term market signal is bearish: Bitcoin briefly fell to a five-week low, is struggling to hold $80,000, and the total crypto market capitalisation has slipped below $2.7 trillion. Losses across many altcoins, including several double-digit weekly declines, suggest traders are reducing risk or favouring larger assets. Bitcoin dominance at 60% is consistent with relative weakness in altcoins, although it does not by itself confirm further market declines.
In the short term, traders may watch whether BTC can defend $80,000 and whether selling pressure eases. A sustained break below that level could prompt further downside bets and amplify volatility; a recovery above it could encourage short-covering. Similar broad sell-offs have often produced sharp countertrend rebounds, so the Saturday bounce alone does not establish a reversal.
For the longer term, this report provides no clear change to crypto fundamentals or a durable trend signal. Market direction will also depend on macroeconomic conditions, liquidity and follow-through in prices. The assessment is therefore bearish for immediate sentiment, rather than a definitive long-term outlook.
