BitMine Nears 5% Ethereum Supply Target
BitMine Immersion Technologies holds 6,001,302 ETH, equal to about 4.9% of the 122.1 million ETH supply cited by the company. BitMine needs roughly 103,700 ETH to reach its 5% Ethereum supply target. It bought about 259,000 ETH over 12 weeks, averaging 21,600 ETH per week. If BitMine maintains this pace, it could reach the target in about 4.8 weeks, potentially in early November. Chairman Tom Lee said BitMine will reassess its strategy in 2027 and has not confirmed whether accumulation will continue above 5%. The company is also expanding institutional staking through MAVAN, which reportedly manages more than $2 billion in external crypto assets. Ether staking and validation generated $45.7 million, or 98% of BitMine’s $46.5 million in quarterly revenue. Continued BitMine buying could support ETH demand and reduce liquid supply, but traders should watch for slower purchases after the target is reached, as well as concerns about supply concentration and treasury-related market influence.
Bullish
The immediate impact on ETH is modestly bullish. BitMine’s purchases signal sustained institutional demand and may remove ETH from liquid market supply, supporting prices if buying continues. The company’s staking expansion also reinforces the long-term investment case by generating yield from its holdings. However, the bullish effect may weaken once BitMine reaches 5% and slows or reassesses accumulation. Large treasury positions could also increase supply concentration and create future selling or staking-reward pressure. Traders should therefore monitor BitMine’s weekly purchase disclosures, ETH exchange liquidity, staking flows and broader institutional demand. In the short term, the news may support sentiment and buying interest, while the longer-term price impact depends on whether BitMine continues accumulating beyond the target.
