Bitwise’s Crypto Spring Outlook Follows Q3 Rally

Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan says a strong third-quarter rally may signal a “crypto spring.” The Bitwise 10 Large Cap Crypto Index gained 46.39%, with all 10 assets posting double-digit quarterly gains: BTC rose 42.3%, ETH 69.1%, SOL 59.2% and LINK 97.6%. US spot Bitcoin ETFs drew about $6 billion in net inflows in Q3, returning year-to-date flows to positive territory. On-chain activity also grew: tokenized equities rose 65.5% to nearly $3.2 billion, while decentralized perpetual futures open interest reached a record near $26 billion. The recovery remains uneven. The index was still down about 6.2% year to date at September’s end, and mining stocks Riot Platforms and Hut 8 fell more than 25%. ETF flows also became volatile in October, while high futures open interest could amplify moves if macro conditions deteriorate. Bitwise sees regulatory developments, including a possible SEC innovation exemption, as potential support for tokenized assets and US participation in perpetual futures. The crypto spring outlook points to improving conditions, but a sustained bull market will depend on continued ETF inflows and Bitcoin breaking above recent highs.
Bullish
The Q3 rally, roughly $6 billion in US spot Bitcoin ETF inflows, and gains across BTC, ETH, SOL and LINK provide a positive near-term signal for these assets. Stronger on-chain activity may also support longer-term demand. However, the rally does not yet establish a durable uptrend: the index remained down year to date at September’s end, ETF flows became volatile in October, and high futures open interest can increase liquidation risk. Regulatory support and continued ETF demand could extend gains, while weaker macro conditions or failure by Bitcoin to break above recent highs could prompt a sharp reversal. The news is therefore bullish overall, but its impact depends on follow-through rather than the Q3 rally alone.
