Blur to Close Website as NFT Volume and BLUR Price Fall
Blur will close its NFT marketplace website on November 12, 2026, while its Ethereum marketplace contracts are expected to remain operational. The platform has not confirmed a replacement interface, so traders may need third-party tools to manage listings and orders. The closure does not itself remove NFTs from self-custody wallets, but users should review listings, contract approvals and access to NFT media separately.
Blur’s Blend service will stop matching new loans on the same date. Borrowers must repay outstanding loans by the deadline or face the protocol’s default process. Blur says it will provide a tool for withdrawing remaining assets, but has not specified when it will be available or exactly what it will cover.
The shutdown follows a steep decline in Blur’s activity: monthly trading volume fell from about $1.43 billion in March 2023 to less than $7 million in March 2026. Launched in 2022 to compete with OpenSea, Blur once accounted for more than 70% of Ethereum NFT trading volume. Following the announcement, BLUR fell more than 30% and traded near $0.012, according to CoinGecko. The retreat adds pressure to Blur and the NFT sector, which has also seen services scaled back by X2Y2, Binance NFT and Magic Eden’s Bitcoin and EVM offerings; Magic Eden’s Solana marketplace remains active. For BLUR traders, the contract’s continued operation may allow third-party access, but the website closure and sharp activity decline are significant risks.
Bearish
The news is bearish for BLUR because the website closure signals a major reduction in the platform’s services, while the sharp decline in trading volume points to weakening marketplace demand. The reported fall of more than 30% after the announcement suggests traders have already reacted negatively and may continue to price in lower activity, reduced utility and uncertainty about access after the shutdown.
In the short term, borrowers facing a repayment deadline and users needing to manage listings or approvals may add selling pressure or increase volatility as they adjust positions. Continued operation of the Ethereum contracts and potential third-party access offer some mitigation, but no replacement interface has been confirmed. Over the longer term, Blur’s ability to retain users and support BLUR demand may be impaired if its marketplace and lending functions become harder to access. The broader retreat of NFT services adds to the negative backdrop. These factors do not guarantee further losses, but they leave the token exposed to weak sentiment and ongoing uncertainty.
