Brent Oil Stays Above $106 as Iran Talks Drive Risk
Brent oil rose more than 2% to $106.92 a barrel after US President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s latest peace proposal. WTI climbed to $94.49, as renewed concerns over the conflict and the Strait of Hormuz lifted the geopolitical risk premium.
The earlier escalation had raised fears of shipping disruptions, infrastructure attacks and higher insurance costs. Although Middle Eastern crude exports later recovered to about 12.8 million barrels per day in September, traders continued to price the risk of renewed supply interruptions. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are also expected to increase shipments through the strait.
Refined fuel markets remain tight, with European diesel margins recently reaching record levels. The International Energy Agency has warned that a prolonged disruption could become one of the largest supply shocks on record.
Upcoming US-Iran talks are now the main catalyst for Brent oil. A credible agreement that supports the safe reopening of the Strait of Hormuz could push prices lower. A diplomatic failure could keep Brent oil above $106 and sustain volatility across energy, inflation and broader risk markets, including crypto.
Neutral
This news does not directly concern a specific cryptocurrency, so its direct price impact on crypto assets is neutral. Indirectly, higher Brent oil prices and prolonged Strait of Hormuz risks could raise inflation expectations and reduce expectations for rapid monetary easing. That may pressure Bitcoin and other risk assets in the short term as traders reduce leverage and seek safer positions.
However, the impact is not one-directional. Persistent geopolitical uncertainty can also increase demand for Bitcoin as a non-sovereign asset, particularly if confidence in traditional markets weakens. A successful US-Iran agreement and the safe reopening of the strait could reduce energy prices and risk premiums, supporting broader risk sentiment. A diplomatic failure could instead strengthen the US dollar, increase volatility and weigh on crypto markets. With no direct crypto catalyst and conflicting secondary effects, the overall classification is neutral.
