Celo x402 Adds cNGN and Three Latin American Stablecoins

Celo’s x402 facilitator has added support for Nigeria’s cNGN and Ripio’s wMXN, wCLP and wPEN, expanding its agentic payment options to eight currencies and 10 stablecoins. The additions bring the Mexican peso, Chilean peso, Peruvian sol and Nigerian naira to the service, alongside previously supported US dollar, Argentine peso, Brazilian real and Colombian peso stablecoins. Celo says its x402 facilitator enables AI agents to make onchain payments in users’ local currencies, potentially reducing foreign-exchange friction and transaction costs. Ripio CEO Sebastian Serrano said all six stablecoins in the company’s wFIAT suite are now supported natively on Celo. WrappedCBDC Managing Director Charles Okaformbah said cNGN brings naira payments to agents serving Nigerian users and businesses. The expansion adds to Celo’s agent-focused tools, including a marketplace for services and Self’s Agent Vault. It broadens local-currency payment infrastructure, though the announcement does not indicate a direct change to CELO token economics.
Neutral
The announcement is a positive development for Celo’s payment infrastructure, but its immediate market impact is likely neutral. Adding cNGN and three Ripio stablecoins expands x402’s reach across Nigeria and Latin America, potentially making the network more useful for AI-agent payments and reducing local-currency conversion friction. However, the article reports no transaction volumes, new revenue figures, user commitments or change to CELO’s token economics. Those factors limit the basis for a near-term repricing of CELO. Similar stablecoin and payment integrations have often been viewed as long-term ecosystem catalysts rather than immediate trading triggers. Traders may monitor CELO activity, stablecoin supply, transaction counts and adoption by payment or AI-agent developers to see whether the rollout translates into sustained usage. A meaningful increase in those indicators could support longer-term sentiment; without it, the announcement alone is unlikely to materially affect market stability or drive a durable price move. Broader crypto-market conditions will probably remain more influential in the short term.
