Chainlink TWAP Mainnet Feeds Launch for Developers, Polymarket to Shift Settlement
Chainlink has launched TWAP (time-weighted average price) mainnet feeds, giving DeFi and prediction market developers more manipulation-resistant pricing data.
The TWAP feeds went live around 19:55 UTC on July 31 and come in two variants: a 30-second window and a 60-second window. Developers can access them via Chainlink Data Streams, using available documentation, feed IDs, and SDK examples on data.chain.link. Pricing starts at $150/month for selected feeds.
Polymarket is the first major adopter. It plans to move its crypto up/down markets to TWAP-based settlement starting August 7 at 00:00 UTC. The 30-second TWAP feeds target 5-minute markets, while the 60-second TWAP feeds cover 15-minute and 4-hour markets. Polymarket will also launch a Real-Time Data Streaming WebSocket on August 4, with the period before full RTDS delivery acting as a final calibration window.
Why this matters: single-snapshot pricing can be briefly pushed right before settlement. TWAP reduces this attack surface by averaging prices over a time window, making sustained manipulation more expensive.
To support the migration, Polymarket is offering $1 million in liquidity incentives across the affected markets throughout August.
Overall, Chainlink’s TWAP mainnet rollout strengthens oracle infrastructure for markets that rely on fair and harder-to-game pricing inputs.
Neutral
This is an infrastructure upgrade rather than a new token launch or direct change to spot demand. Chainlink’s TWAP mainnet feeds improve oracle robustness by averaging prices over a window, which should reduce settlement manipulation risk for prediction-style instruments. That can modestly increase trader confidence in contract settlement quality, but it doesn’t immediately translate into broad, measurable inflows.
In the short term, Polymarket’s scheduled TWAP settlement switch (Aug 7) and the $1M liquidity incentives could slightly boost activity and liquidity in the affected markets as traders anticipate the mechanics change. However, until Polymarket’s RTDS WebSocket is fully live (Aug 4) and the system is fully calibrated, some uncertainty remains, which can limit aggressive positioning.
In the long term, wider TWAP adoption could become a competitive advantage for platforms that need manipulation-resistant pricing, potentially tightening the link between oracle quality and market integrity. Similar oracle-hardening upgrades in DeFi have typically been viewed as risk-reduction measures—supportive for stability, but usually not strongly bullish unless paired with sustained user growth.
