CoinMarketCap Acquires CoinGlass for Derivatives Data
CoinMarketCap has completed its acquisition of CoinGlass, expanding its crypto derivatives data and market analytics offering. The deal closed on 25 September 2026, with financial terms undisclosed.
CoinGlass will continue operating under its existing brand, with its team, website, mobile app, free tools, API and subscription pricing unchanged. The platform tracks more than 2,500 instruments across 28 exchanges and provides liquidation data, open interest, funding rates, long-short positioning, options and ETF flows. It has more than 5 million monthly users and over 10,000 API clients.
CoinMarketCap, owned by Binance since 2020, serves about 115 million monthly users. The acquisition adds derivatives analytics to its existing coverage of token prices, market capitalisation and trading volumes. CoinMarketCap and CoinGlass could give traders easier access to leverage, positioning and liquidation-risk indicators. However, the acquisition itself is not a direct price catalyst for cryptocurrencies and is expected to have a neutral immediate market impact.
Neutral
The acquisition does not directly affect the supply, demand or fundamentals of any cryptocurrency, so its immediate price impact is likely neutral. In the short term, traders may react positively to improved access to liquidation levels, open interest and funding rates, but these are market-monitoring tools rather than new sources of capital.
Over the longer term, deeper derivatives analytics could improve trader engagement and help market participants assess leverage, positioning and liquidation risk more efficiently. This may support better-informed trading and strengthen competition in crypto market data. However, similar data-platform acquisitions have generally had limited direct influence on token prices. Broader market conditions, exchange activity and derivatives positioning are likely to remain the primary price drivers.
