38 Companies Object to OKX-ICE Tokenized Stocks

The number of companies objecting to OKX-ICE’s planned tokenized stock venue has risen to 38, up from 33 the previous day and nine on Oct. 15. Recent objectors include Walmart, Eli Lilly, Cigna Group, Carnival and Arcos Dorados, spanning retail, healthcare and travel. Their reasons have not been disclosed. Under an SEC innovation exemption, companies can prevent unaffiliated third parties from listing tokenized versions of their shares on OKX-ICE by objecting in writing within 30 days of receiving notice. The objections apply only to this venue. The joint venture between Intercontinental Exchange and OKX’s U.S. holding company plans to offer approved users round-the-clock trading in tokenized U.S. stocks. Trades would use permissioned Uniswap v4 pools on X Layer and stablecoins such as USDC. The SEC exemption limits eligible stocks and trading volumes, and more objections could emerge before the response period ends. The growing opposition adds a regulatory and adoption hurdle for tokenized stocks, but does not itself establish a direct price catalyst for crypto assets.
Neutral
The objections concern whether companies’ shares can be represented by third-party tokens on the OKX-ICE venue; they do not directly change the supply, demand or trading rules of a named cryptocurrency. In the short term, the rising objection count may draw attention to regulatory and adoption risks around tokenized securities, potentially prompting caution toward related infrastructure tokens. However, the reports provide no evidence of a direct price effect on OKB, UNI, ETH or USDC, and the venue has not been reported as launching or halting trading. Longer term, restrictions on eligible stocks and trading volumes, alongside company objections, could slow this particular route to on-chain stock trading. Conversely, the planned use of permissioned DeFi pools and stablecoins still signals institutional experimentation. With no immediate crypto-specific catalyst or clear change in market liquidity, the likely impact on the mentioned crypto assets is neutral; traders should distinguish the development’s potential implications for adoption from direct token-price signals.
