Crypto Tokens: Trading, AI and Privacy Lead YTD Gains

A review by DeFi researcher Ignas says only trading, AI and privacy tokens have outperformed Bitcoin this year. Trading tokens led the group: DRV gained 665%, HYPE 200%, PUMP 121% and RAY 106%. Ignas linked their gains to speculative activity generating protocol fees, with buybacks potentially supporting token value. AI tokens also rose sharply, led by VVV at 1,431%, followed by NEAR at 203% and GRASS at 151%. Privacy tokens ZEC and XMR gained 137% and 37%, respectively. Institutional-adoption-related tokens QNT and MORPHO rose 173% and 89%. The figures point to strength in a few crypto token sectors rather than a broad market rally. Ignas said tokens with strong revenue-generating capacity may offer a more manageable trading thesis, though past gains do not guarantee future performance.
Neutral
The report is a retrospective performance survey, not a new catalyst such as a protocol upgrade, regulatory decision or major capital-flow event. Its figures show strong gains in selected trading, AI and privacy tokens, but also stress that most tokens have underperformed Bitcoin. That narrow leadership does not by itself establish a broad bullish trend or signal a change in market stability. In the short term, traders may use the rankings to focus on tokens with rising activity, fee revenue or buyback mechanisms. This could increase volatility and encourage momentum trading, particularly in assets that have already posted outsized gains. Reversals are also possible if speculative volumes or sector narratives weaken. Similar past periods of concentrated sector outperformance have often prompted rapid rotations, while price gains alone did not reliably confirm durable adoption. Over the longer term, sustainable protocol revenue and continued user demand could support the trading-token thesis. AI and privacy tokens would also need tangible adoption and development progress to justify continued interest. Traders should compare these performance figures with Bitcoin’s trend, liquidity, trading volume, token unlocks and project fundamentals. The article provides no evidence of an immediate market-wide impact, so a neutral classification is appropriate.
