Binance’s CZ Addresses FTX Collapse, Listings and DeFi
Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) revisited the exchange’s rapid rise, the FTX collapse and major crypto market risks in a 25 September 2026 podcast interview. He said Binance became a global leader within six months because of its aligned, pragmatic team and strong execution.
CZ rejected claims that his November 2022 post about selling FTT caused FTX to fail. He argued that FTX allegedly misused customer funds and lacked liquidity, adding that a single social-media post should not be able to destroy a financially sound company. He also said Binance did not cause the 10 October 2025 market crash, and that macroeconomic shocks came first. Binance reportedly paid about $800 million to affected users despite having no legal obligation to do so.
On Binance listings and Launchpad projects, CZ said most ventures in emerging industries eventually fail, as seen in technology and artificial intelligence. However, early-stage crypto tokens are publicly tradable, exposing retail traders to greater losses. He backed wider investment access alongside stronger disclosures, education and regulation. He acknowledged that marketing, market-making and unclear promotion can disadvantage retail investors.
CZ defended cautious exchange security measures, including temporarily halting withdrawals after Binance’s 2019 hack. He welcomed competition from decentralised exchanges such as Hyperliquid, while saying centralised exchanges remain more convenient for most users. He described meme coins as community-driven assets shaped by culture and viral narratives.
CZ remains long-term bullish on crypto adoption, but said his social-media posts cannot move a market worth roughly $3 trillion. He is now focused on regulation, Web3 investment and Giggle Academy, which he said grew from about 100,000 to 1.3 million children in 2026. The interview contained no new operational announcement or immediate market catalyst. For traders, its main significance is the continued focus on Binance transparency, token listings, liquidity management, exchange security, retail risk and the long-term development of decentralised finance.
Neutral
The interview is unlikely to create a direct short-term price catalyst for Binance’s BNB, FTT or the wider crypto market. CZ repeated previously known positions on the FTX collapse, exchange security, token listings and decentralised finance, without announcing a new product, policy or capital commitment that would materially change market expectations.
Short-term trading reactions could still be mixed. Repeated discussion of customer-fund misuse, listing risks and retail disadvantage may reinforce concerns about exchange transparency and token liquidity. That could produce temporary caution around exchange-linked and early-stage tokens. Conversely, CZ’s defence of Binance, its reported compensation for affected users and his long-term adoption outlook may limit negative sentiment.
Over the longer term, stronger disclosures, investor education and regulation could improve market stability and reduce information asymmetry. Competition from DEXs such as Hyperliquid may pressure centralised exchanges to improve security and transparency, while potentially supporting decentralised finance adoption. However, these are structural themes rather than immediate demand drivers. The balanced message and absence of a new operational catalyst support a neutral price-impact assessment.
