Deutsche Bank Crypto Custody Targets Germany and Asia

Deutsche Bank plans to launch crypto custody in Germany within weeks, subject to regulatory approval, and expand the service to Asia in 2027. Its crypto custody service will allow corporate and institutional clients to hold and transfer Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), and stablecoins USDC, EURC and EURAU, while the bank manages wallets and private keys. BaFin granted the bank relevant authorisation under the EU’s MiCA framework on 12 October. Deutsche Bank has worked with Bitpanda and Taurus on its plans and is exploring stablecoin conversions, tokenised deposits and digital bond issuance. The expansion supports the corporate bank’s target of about 8% annual revenue growth from 2025 to 2028. No Asian market has been named.
Neutral
The announcement is structurally positive for institutional crypto adoption, but its direct near-term effect on BTC and ETH prices is likely limited. The German launch is still subject to regulatory approval, while the Asia expansion is planned for 2027, so the service does not immediately create substantial new demand for either asset. Traders may view the bank’s entry and MiCA authorisation as signs of growing legitimacy and potentially stronger institutional access over the long term. However, custody infrastructure does not guarantee client inflows or purchases, and similar adoption announcements have often had muted price effects unless followed by measurable investment flows. With no specific market, launch volumes or client commitments disclosed, the most defensible classification for the mentioned cryptocurrencies is neutral.
