DICT Trains 53 Filipinos in Blockchain and Crypto Skills
The Philippines’ Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has trained 53 participants through free, 20-day blockchain certification courses in Kalinga and Capiz. The program is part of SPARK, an initiative to build digital skills among provincial jobseekers, fresh graduates, out-of-school youth and returning overseas Filipino workers.
The blockchain certification combines 10 days of online lectures with 10 days of practical work, including market application and capstone projects. In Kalinga, 28 participants graduated; 17 medalists earned a combined ₱76,340.49 from remote freelance work during the practical phase. One project proposed a blockchain-based registry and royalty system to protect indigenous handicraft designs and pay artisans.
In Capiz, all 25 scholars completed the course. Five graduates received medals for projects related to decentralized finance and Web3 freelancing. The program reflects the DICT’s effort to extend digital training beyond Metro Manila and expand skills in blockchain and emerging digital industries.
Neutral
The DICT training program is a positive development for blockchain awareness and digital skills in the Philippines, but it is not a direct market catalyst. It does not announce a token investment, regulatory change, major commercial deployment or measurable increase in crypto demand. The reported freelance earnings and completed projects are encouraging indicators of practical interest, but the cohorts are small and the article provides no evidence that they will materially affect trading volume or prices.
Similar government-led blockchain education initiatives can generate short-lived attention for the sector, while their longer-term value depends on whether training leads to sustained employment, real deployments and broader adoption. Traders may view this announcement as a modest sign of ecosystem development, but it is unlikely to alter short-term market positioning or stability. Over time, workforce development could support local blockchain services and adoption; any effect on crypto markets would likely be gradual and indirect. The neutral classification reflects the difference between positive industry-building news and an immediate, tradeable catalyst.
