DTCC Launches Tokenization Service for $30T in Securities
The Depository Trust Company (DTC), a subsidiary of DTCC, has launched a tokenization service for eligible U.S. stocks, ETFs and Treasury securities. The initial list covers 34 securities with about $30 trillion in market value. DTC holds more than $114 trillion in assets overall.
Twenty firms have signed up, including JPMorgan, Citi, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, UBS, Fidelity Investments, Alpaca and Citadel Securities. Tokens are backed one-for-one by securities held at DTC, which remains the official ownership-record keeper. The service is designed to preserve traditional investor protections while allowing tokenized securities to move between approved wallets around the clock. Conversion is available during business hours and is targeted to take 15 minutes or less.
The service supports Canton Network and DTCC’s private Besu blockchain. Its launch follows an SEC no-action letter issued in December 2025; DTCC also plans to add Stellar and Circle’s Arc blockchain in 2027, alongside digital-cash settlement and collateral tools. The DTCC tokenization launch marks a step towards institutional adoption of tokenized real-world assets, but does not by itself indicate a near-term change in crypto prices or trading.
Neutral
The launch is a meaningful development for institutional tokenization, but it does not directly change the supply, demand or use of a specific cryptocurrency. In the short term, traders may view DTCC’s involvement as a positive signal for blockchain-based financial infrastructure, but the service is permissioned and its supported securities are not crypto assets. That makes a direct price effect on tokens such as XLM or Canton Coin unlikely based on the announcement alone.
Over the longer term, expanded institutional use of tokenization could strengthen the broader case for blockchain infrastructure and potentially benefit related networks if they attract sustained activity. However, the planned integrations and settlement tools are not yet proof of increased on-chain demand for any particular token. Traders should distinguish potential sector-wide adoption from near-term crypto price catalysts; market direction will continue to depend more on token-specific usage, liquidity, regulation and wider market conditions.
