mump2p Launches on Ethereum as ether.fi Mandates Adoption

Optimum’s mump2p block-propagation software is now live on Ethereum mainnet. ether.fi, which previously offered mump2p as an option, now requires all 12 of its node operators to run it. In total, 16 operators are using mump2p in production, managing about 22,000 validator keys and more than 1.4 million staked ETH—over 3% of Ethereum’s total staked ether. Partners include Blockdaemon, Everstake, P2P.org, Stakefish and Bitcoin Suisse. mump2p runs as a sidecar gateway on libp2p and alongside Ethereum’s default GossipSub network, rather than replacing it. Optimum says its random linear network coding technology delivers blocks 2.42 times faster than GossipSub, with about 7.88 times less variation in arrival times; the company also reported that mump2p delivered blocks first in nine out of 10 measurements. These are company-reported results, and the announcement did not detail the testing method. Faster propagation could help validators avoid missed attestations and MEV rewards, including those operating farther from major hosting hubs. Led by MIT professor Muriel Médard, Optimum launched a private testnet in June 2025 and raised an $11 million seed round led by 1kx. It plans to expand to other high-throughput blockchains. The adoption adds to Ethereum infrastructure development, but its direct effect on ETH trading is likely limited.
Neutral
The news is a positive infrastructure development for Ethereum, but it does not directly change ETH supply, demand or monetary policy. Greater block-propagation speed could improve validator performance and network efficiency, potentially supporting confidence in Ethereum over the longer term. However, the reported performance figures are from Optimum and have not been independently verified, while adoption by 16 operators—even with more than 1.4 million ETH under management—does not by itself establish a material change in network-wide performance. In the short term, traders are therefore unlikely to treat the announcement as a strong ETH price catalyst. Over time, broader adoption and independently confirmed improvements could bolster sentiment, but the effect would likely be gradual and secondary to factors such as market liquidity, ETH demand and wider crypto-market conditions.
