Ethereum Faces $2,000 Risk as ETF Outflows Mount
Ethereum (ETH) has fallen about 13% this month, putting it on track for one of its rare negative Octobers. ETH was trading near $2,330, down 4.3% over the past week, and has closed another weekly candle below $2,400.
Analysts warn that ETH could fall further. Alaoui Capital identified $1,850–$1,920 as a potential support zone if the price breaks below the psychological $2,000 level. Analyst Ted said failure to reclaim $2,350 soon could open a move towards $2,200. Other market commentators offered a more optimistic view, suggesting ETH could rebound above $3,000 or eventually reach $3,600.
Demand from institutional investors is also weakening. Spot Ethereum ETFs recorded about $220 million in net outflows last week, adding pressure as issuers sell assets to meet redemptions. BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes also sold more than $15 million in ETH and reduced positions in ENA and UNI, despite having previously forecast that Ethereum could reach $10,000 by the end of 2026.
The combination of price weakness and ETF outflows raises near-term downside risks for Ethereum, although analysts disagree on whether the current decline will continue or lead to a reversal.
Bearish
The near-term signals are bearish for Ethereum: ETH is down about 13% this month, remains below key levels at $2,400 and $2,350, and faces roughly $220 million in weekly spot ETF outflows. Continued redemptions can require issuers to sell ETH, while Arthur Hayes’ reported sale adds to negative sentiment. If the $2,000 psychological level fails, traders may watch the $1,850–$1,920 support zone identified by Alaoui Capital; a move towards $2,200 is another near-term risk scenario.
Similar episodes of persistent ETF outflows and price weakness have tended to weigh on sentiment and encourage short-term traders to reduce exposure, though flows alone do not determine price direction. A sharp rejection from support could trigger short covering and a relief rally, as some analysts expect, with $3,000–$3,600 cited as potential upside targets. For now, however, the market has not confirmed that reversal. In the short term, downside volatility and cautious positioning appear more likely. Longer term, the outlook will depend on whether ETF flows stabilize, ETH reclaims resistance, and broader crypto-market conditions improve.
