Dormant Whales Deposit 14,700 ETH to OKX
Blockchain monitoring data initially showed an anonymous whale address depositing 5,637 ETH, worth about $11.92 million, to OKX. Later, Lookonchain identified two Ethereum addresses that had been inactive for more than a year and deposited a combined 14,700 ETH, valued at roughly $36.94 million, over nine hours. The addresses may belong to the same whale. The larger ETH exchange inflow is being monitored because deposits to centralised exchanges can precede selling and increase short-term sell-side pressure. However, no sale has been confirmed. ETH traders should watch OKX order-book liquidity, exchange balances, follow-up whale deposits or withdrawals, and the broader market trend. Without further inflows or confirmed selling, the transfer may have limited lasting impact on ETH.
Neutral
The ETH inflow to OKX creates a potential short-term bearish risk because large holders often transfer assets to exchanges before selling. The later identification of 14,700 ETH from dormant addresses makes the flow more significant than the initial 5,637 ETH report and could encourage traders to reduce risk or anticipate higher volatility. However, an exchange deposit does not confirm a sale. ETH may also be moved for custody, trading, collateral or other operational purposes. The short-term impact will depend on whether additional deposits follow, whether OKX order-book liquidity absorbs the supply, and whether exchange balances rise alongside actual selling. If selling is confirmed, ETH could face downside pressure. If no follow-through appears, the market may treat the transfer as noise. Over the longer term, a single whale movement is unlikely to alter ETH fundamentals or market direction, making a neutral assessment appropriate.
