Polymarket Fed Odds Shift as December Hike Bets Rise
Polymarket Fed odds have shifted since the earlier market snapshot. Traders now assign a 73% probability to the Federal Reserve holding rates at its October 27–28 meeting, down from 81%, while the chance of a 25-basis-point hike has risen to 27% from 20%. The October contract has seen more than $41.5 million in volume, up from about $33.8 million.
Expectations for December have also increased: Polymarket traders now see an 80% chance of a 25-basis-point hike, compared with 76% previously. The change follows hotter-than-expected September producer price inflation. The Kobeissi Letter reported headline PPI at 6.3%, versus 5.3% expected, and core PPI at 5.0%, against a 4.4% forecast. Earlier, traders were watching the September CPI report, forecast to show headline inflation rising to 3.7% from 3.4% in August, with core inflation at 2.5%.
For Bitcoin traders, an October rate hold could remove an immediate policy catalyst, but it would not mean tightening is over or guarantee a BTC rally. Higher-rate expectations can lift Treasury yields and the US dollar, potentially weighing on risk appetite. Polymarket Fed odds are changeable market expectations, not an official Federal Reserve forecast; traders will continue to watch inflation data, yields and liquidity for clues about Bitcoin’s direction.
Bearish
The combined news is mildly bearish for Bitcoin because markets have raised their expectations for a December rate hike, while hotter-than-expected producer price data reinforces concerns that inflation may keep monetary policy restrictive. In the short term, higher rate expectations can lift Treasury yields and the US dollar, reducing demand for risk assets and potentially adding pressure to BTC. An October hold may limit an immediate policy shock, but it is already the more likely outcome and may therefore be partly priced in.
The longer-term effect depends on incoming inflation data, Federal Reserve communications, yields and liquidity. If inflation cools and the Fed signals that it will hold rates, the pressure could ease and risk appetite may recover. If inflation remains firm and markets continue to price in hikes, tighter financial conditions could weigh on Bitcoin. Polymarket odds measure sentiment rather than determine policy, so traders should treat them as one indicator alongside economic data and market positioning.
