Fortitude Names Former Hut 8 CEO Ahead of Zcash Listing

Fortitude Mining has appointed former Hut 8 CEO Jaime Leverton as chief executive, strengthening the Zcash miner’s leadership ahead of its planned public listing. Leverton will replace Andrea Childs on Sept. 21, while Childs becomes chief operating officer. Fortitude mined 72,696 ZEC in the first half of 2026, representing about 28% of Zcash network production. It reported $20.9 million in second-quarter revenue and operates more than 60 megawatts of power capacity across seven US sites. The company also agreed to buy 9,000 Bitmain Antminer Z15 Pro machines, expected to add 7.56 GSol/s of Equihash hashrate from the fourth quarter. Owned by Digital Currency Group, Fortitude has mined Zcash since 2019. Its proposed merger with HeartSciences, announced in June, is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026. The combined company plans to trade on Nasdaq under the ticker TUDE, subject to approval. The leadership change comes as ZEC rallies sharply. ZEC traded near $1,424 and gained about 185% in 30 days and more than 2,600% over the past year, according to CoinGecko. The rally followed disclosure that Paradigm holds ZEC and invests in the Zcash Open Development Lab. ZEC represents about 62% of the privacy-coin sector’s market capitalisation, according to Glassnode.
Bullish
The near-term impact is bullish for ZEC because the appointment adds experienced public-market and mining leadership to Fortitude, while the proposed Nasdaq listing could improve institutional visibility and access to capital. Fortitude’s planned purchase of 9,000 Z15 Pro machines also signals confidence in Zcash mining economics and could increase network hashrate and corporate demand for ZEC. The strongest market catalyst, however, is the broader privacy-coin rally and Paradigm’s disclosed ZEC exposure. Similar announcements involving major funds or exchange listings have often triggered sharp speculative buying, particularly in smaller market segments. ZEC’s reported 185% monthly gain and 2,600% annual gain also indicate strong momentum, but they raise the risk of profit-taking and elevated volatility. In the short term, traders may focus on the TUDE listing timeline, merger approval, mining-machine deliveries and further institutional disclosures. Any delay to the HeartSciences transaction, Nasdaq approval or equipment deployment could reverse sentiment. In the long term, greater mining capacity and public-market access may support Zcash liquidity and adoption, although dilution, operating costs, regulatory scrutiny of privacy assets and the sustainability of the token’s rally remain key risks.
