Full Sail to Shut Down After $91K Sui DeFi Exploit
Full Sail, a Sui-based DeFi protocol, is winding down after an oracle-related security incident linked to Switchboard. An attacker removed about $91,000 from three automated vaults after a suspected compromise of Switchboard’s Move-based infrastructure. Full Sail has disabled new deposits and liquidity-provider reward claims. Its regular pools will shift to withdrawal-only mode after final security checks. Full Sail said it will use remaining protocol-owned liquidity and team funds to compensate community depositors, with withdrawal and claim instructions expected within days. Switchboard halted its network across Aptos, Sui, IOTA and Movement while investigating the incident. Separately, IOTA-based stablecoin lending protocol Virtue reported losses of about $455,000, impairing the backing of its VUSD stablecoin. The Full Sail shutdown adds pressure to Sui DeFi and could increase short-term caution around oracle-dependent protocols, vaults and smaller blockchain ecosystems.
Bearish
The immediate market impact is bearish, although it is likely to remain concentrated in Sui DeFi and related small-cap assets rather than the wider crypto market. Full Sail’s decision to shut down after a roughly $91,000 loss signals operational and confidence risks for oracle-dependent vaults. The separate $455,000 loss reported by Virtue and the impairment of VUSD’s backing broaden concerns about security controls and collateral reliability across smaller ecosystems. In the short term, traders may reduce exposure to SUI-linked DeFi tokens, withdraw liquidity, widen risk premiums and monitor whether losses spread to other Switchboard users. SUI could face modest selling pressure if liquidations or defensive withdrawals increase, while volatility may rise in affected pools. Similar oracle exploits and bridge or lending-protocol failures have historically produced sharp, localized price declines and temporary total-value-locked outflows, even when losses were small relative to the overall market. Over the longer term, compensation by Full Sail could limit contagion, but the shutdown may encourage stronger oracle diversification, emergency controls and insurance requirements. A broader bearish move would require evidence of additional exploits, unresolved compensation shortfalls or material stress in major DeFi protocols. Without that evidence, the event is a negative sector signal rather than a systemic crypto-market shock.
