Galaxy Digital Adds $100M in sUSDS as Loan Collateral
Galaxy Digital has added $100 million worth of Sky Protocol’s yield-bearing sUSDS to its corporate treasury and approved sUSDS as collateral for institutional loans. Galaxy Digital clients can borrow against the asset while retaining exposure to the variable Sky Savings Rate.
The move expands an existing relationship with Sky. Grove, part of the Sky ecosystem, provides Galaxy with a $500 million USDS-funded warehouse facility for digital-asset-backed loans. Galaxy also purchased an undisclosed amount of SKY, Sky’s governance token.
Galaxy’s institutional trading business serves more than 1,600 counterparties and has an average loan book of about $1.4 billion. Sky’s sUSDS supply reached $5.52 billion by the end of the second quarter of 2026, up 149% year on year. The announcement briefly pushed SKY prices up by double digits.
For traders, the approval of sUSDS as collateral is more significant than the treasury allocation because it could improve institutional adoption, liquidity and demand across the Sky ecosystem. Risks include variable yields, smart-contract exposure, Sky Protocol’s B- credit rating from S&P Global and Galaxy’s increasing concentration in Sky-related products.
Bullish
The immediate price reaction was bullish, with SKY briefly rising by double digits after Galaxy Digital disclosed the treasury allocation and collateral approval. The collateral decision is the stronger market signal because it integrates sUSDS into institutional lending and could increase demand, liquidity and market visibility for both sUSDS and SKY.
In the short term, traders may continue to buy SKY on expectations of broader institutional adoption, although the move could fade if no additional loan volumes or treasury purchases are disclosed. The undisclosed size of Galaxy’s SKY purchase also limits the strength of the direct price signal.
Over the longer term, institutional use could support the Sky ecosystem and improve the utility of its yield-bearing stablecoin. However, variable yields, smart-contract risks, Sky Protocol’s B- credit rating and Galaxy’s concentration in Sky-related lending products may increase volatility and cap the upside. Overall, the announcement is positive for SKY, but the impact remains dependent on actual collateral usage and sustained institutional demand.
