Geth 1.17.10 Delays Hoodi Amsterdam Fork

Geth 1.17.10 postpones the Amsterdam fork on Ethereum’s Hoodi testnet, previously scheduled for 26 October 2026 at 17:42:48 UTC. Hoodi operators running Geth 1.17.9 should upgrade before the original activation time; a new date will be announced in a future release. Other networks are unaffected. The earlier Geth 1.17.9 release prepared Hoodi for the fork and included EVM performance improvements, database and networking fixes, archive-node transaction-history settings, and other compatibility updates. Geth 1.17.10 also adds automatic switching to the snap/2 protocol after Amsterdam activates, with manual controls available, and optimises DUP/SWAP instruction dispatch. These are testnet and client-software updates, not an Ethereum mainnet fork activation.
Neutral
The delay and client updates concern the Hoodi testnet, and the announcement explicitly says other networks are unaffected. They therefore do not directly change Ethereum’s mainnet operation, ETH supply, or near-term network demand, making a sustained price reaction unlikely. Short-term ETH trading may see limited headline-driven volatility, but traders are more likely to treat the news as a testnet scheduling and node-operations matter. Longer term, the performance and reliability improvements could support client readiness and Ethereum development, but they do not by themselves establish a bullish or bearish price catalyst. A new fork date or any later mainnet schedule change could prompt a reassessment.
