Grayscale Adds BitGo Custody to HYPE Staking ETF

Grayscale added BitGo Bank & Trust as a custodian for part of the HYPE held by its Hyperliquid Staking ETF, HYPG, according to an SEC filing. The arrangement took effect on September 30, 2026, and gives the fund another provider for custody and safekeeping, reducing its reliance on a single custodian. The addition highlights growing institutional infrastructure for HYPE products, but does not change HYPG’s core exposure to HYPE. As of October 5, the fund held about $217.8 million in assets and had 6.54 million shares outstanding. About 88.66% of its assets were staked, with average gross staking rewards of 2.26%; returns are not guaranteed and may be lower after fees. HYPG’s 0.29% management fee is slightly below comparable HYPE products from 21Shares and Bitwise. Traders should note that staking income may not offset a sharp decline in HYPE’s price.

The custody addition is a positive operational development for the HYPE investment ecosystem: using another custodian can reduce reliance on one provider and may support institutional participation over time. However, it does not change the ETF’s HYPE exposure, token supply, or demand directly, so it offers no clear near-term price catalyst. Traders may view the filing as evidence of improving market infrastructure, but any response is likely to be limited unless accompanied by stronger inflows or other demand signals. In the longer term, more robust custody arrangements could help institutional access, while HYPE’s price remains the dominant risk. Staking rewards are variable and are not guaranteed to offset a substantial token-price decline.
