Hut 8 Reports $189.5M Profit as AI Leasing Fills Campus
Hut 8 reported third-quarter 2026 revenue of $71.1 million, down from $83.5 million a year earlier and below analyst estimates of $76 million to $77 million. Net income climbed to $189.5 million, largely because of a $413.8 million gain on digital assets, rather than stronger operations. Its Compute segment, primarily Bitcoin mining, generated $68.4 million in revenue. Nine-month revenue rose to $217 million from $146.6 million a year earlier.
Hut 8 signed a second 352 MW lease at its Beacon Point AI data centre campus in Texas, completing the leasing of all planned capacity. The company estimates its AI data centre portfolio has about $26.6 billion in aggregate base-term contract value, highlighting its shift towards AI infrastructure.
Hut 8 sold about 954 BTC during the quarter and used Bitcoin sale proceeds to fund roughly $250 million in share repurchases. It raised its buyback authorization to $1 billion and closed a $1.07 billion secured revolving credit facility. For traders, the results show strong contracted demand for Hut 8’s AI data centres but weaker quarterly revenue; the Bitcoin sales may add some company-specific selling pressure, though the figures alone do not indicate a broader market trend.
Neutral
Hut 8’s sale of about 954 BTC could create some short-term selling pressure, particularly if traders interpret the disposals as a sign that miners are monetizing holdings to fund other priorities. However, the reported sales are company-specific, and the summaries provide no evidence that they signal broader miner stress or a change in Bitcoin market demand. The impact on BTC is therefore likely limited relative to wider drivers such as market liquidity, investor flows and macroeconomic conditions. Over the longer term, Hut 8’s AI data centre expansion and share buybacks may affect its own capital allocation and business profile, but they do not directly establish a sustained direction for Bitcoin’s price. Overall, the news is neutral for BTC.
