Injective Launches GPU Rental Price Futures Index

Injective has expanded its GPU rental futures offering with the Super Intelligence Compute Index (SICI), a perpetual futures market tracking rental prices for five NVIDIA GPUs: H100, B200, H200, A100 and RTX 4090. The index draws data from computing-power rental platforms through London-based provider LO:TECH and updates hourly using a seven-day moving average. The H100 has a 40% weighting, the B200 25%, and the other three chips together account for 35%. Traders can take long or short positions using USDC as collateral, with leverage of up to 10x. The launch builds on Injective’s earlier H100-only market. Injective GPU rental futures could help AI developers hedge compute costs and GPU providers manage rental-rate risk, but liquidity and whether platform data reflects privately negotiated contracts remain key uncertainties. The launch comes as investors scrutinise the cost of AI infrastructure and the prospects of specialist cloud providers.
Neutral
The launch adds a new use case to Injective’s derivatives ecosystem, but the summaries provide no evidence of direct demand for or value accrual to INJ. In the short term, traders may view the product as a sign of platform development, though that response may be limited until trading volume, liquidity and user adoption become clear. Thin liquidity could also increase volatility in the futures market without materially affecting INJ itself. Over the longer term, successful use of GPU rental futures could strengthen Injective’s profile in on-chain derivatives and attract activity to its ecosystem. However, the index depends on rental-platform data that may not capture private contract prices, and the market’s ability to develop sustained liquidity is uncertain. On the available information, the effect on INJ’s price is therefore neutral.
