JST Burns 19% of Supply as Buybacks Shift to Revenue
JUST has completed five JST buyback-and-burn rounds, removing 1,881,973,007 tokens—19.01% of the initial maximum supply—and spending about $118.15 million. The latest round, completed on October 16, 2026, burned 170.7 million JST worth about $23.53 million, funded by JustLend DAO operating income and remaining initial treasury reserves.
In its Q3 2026 and October report, JUST said it upgraded the JST buyback mechanism in October. Future JST buybacks will rely on ongoing ecosystem revenue. From Q4 2026, the DAO plans to use about $20.34 million in surplus funds over four rounds while retaining at least $50 million in treasury reserves. It has not fully detailed future allocation or timing beyond this plan.
The change links continued token-supply reductions more closely to ecosystem activity. JustLend’s quarter-end TVL remained above $7 billion, and GasFree recorded about 21.24 million transactions in Q3. JST had risen from about $0.03 in October 2025 to a peak of $0.142 on October 10, 2026. Buybacks may support sentiment, but future price effects will depend on revenue, execution and demand for JST.
Bullish
The update is moderately bullish for JST because repeated burns reduce circulating supply, while the DAO has outlined further buybacks and a revenue-based mechanism that could sustain demand for the token. The completed programme has removed 19.01% of the initial maximum supply, and the Q4 plan signals that buybacks are expected to continue.
In the short term, the burn and funding plan may support sentiment and encourage traders to price in continued supply reduction. However, some of the news may already be reflected in JST’s reported rise from about $0.03 to $0.142. The planned $20.34 million is a finite surplus allocation, and the impact of later rounds depends on actual ecosystem revenue and execution. If revenue weakens or buybacks fall short of expectations, the price could lose this support. Over the longer term, sustained revenue and transparent delivery could strengthen the supply-side case; burns alone do not guarantee price gains without sufficient token demand.
