Kraken Withdraws Monero Questionnaire, Keeps Regional Limits

Kraken has withdrawn a questionnaire asking Monero (XMR) customers about their employers, sources of funds and intended use of their coins. Co-CEO Arjun Sethi said the questions were inappropriate and stemmed from an internal mistake, not a regulatory requirement; affected customers do not need to respond. Kraken will continue standard anti-money-laundering source-of-funds checks, but says customers do not need to explain how they use Monero after withdrawing it. Monero remains available to trade in eligible regions, but Kraken does not accept XMR deposits. Users in the European Economic Area and the UK cannot trade XMR, while users in Canada and Australia cannot deposit, hold or trade it. The change removes a customer-information request but does not lift existing regional or deposit restrictions on Monero.
Neutral
The withdrawal of the questionnaire removes an unnecessary friction point for some Monero users and may modestly improve sentiment among affected Kraken customers. However, it does not change Monero’s trading availability in restricted jurisdictions or Kraken’s deposit limits, and the exchange will continue standard source-of-funds checks. These factors limit the potential for a meaningful change in XMR demand or liquidity. In the short term, traders may view the clarification as a small improvement in customer treatment, but it provides no direct catalyst for a sustained price move. Over the longer term, XMR’s price is more likely to be influenced by broader market conditions, privacy-coin demand and regulatory developments than by the withdrawal of this questionnaire alone.
