MediaMarktSaturn Pulls Ledger Wallets Amid Tampering Probe
MediaMarktSaturn has removed Ledger hardware wallets from its stores and online platform while it contacts Ledger over reports of device tampering. The retailer says it is taking the matter seriously. The move follows reports from X user Johannes, who said two Ledger wallets bought at separate MediaMarkt stores contained unauthorized cables and cellular modules. Ledger is investigating claims that such implants could transmit users’ recovery phrases over cellular networks, including reports beyond the CryptoBilis reseller case. Former Mt. Gox CEO Mark Karpelès also reported finding a suspected implant in a Ledger Flex bought at Singapore airport. Ledger referred users to its CryptoBilis investigation update but did not directly address that report or confirm tampering in Europe. The allegations remain unverified and under investigation. For crypto traders, the reports highlight hardware-wallet security and self-custody risks, but no direct impact on a specific cryptocurrency has been established.
Neutral
The reports concern the security of Ledger hardware wallets, not the fundamentals or market activity of a specific cryptocurrency. No tampering has been confirmed, and Ledger is investigating, so the reports alone do not establish a direct price catalyst for any coin. In the short term, traders may monitor developments and wallet-related security concerns, but the expected price impact on a specific cryptocurrency is neutral. Longer term, confirmed supply-chain compromise could undermine confidence in self-custody and weigh on sentiment across crypto markets; however, the summaries provide no evidence of such a confirmed breach or a measurable impact on a particular token.
