Monero Surges 43% as XMR Nears Seven-Month High

Monero (XMR) has sharply outperformed the broader crypto market, briefly reaching nearly $530 on August 31, its highest level since January. XMR was trading around $525, up about 43% over the past month, while its market capitalisation approached $10 billion. The rally lifted Monero to 13th place by market value, ahead of Chainlink (LINK) and Cardano (ADA). A key catalyst was reportedly a THORChain network upgrade that added native support for XMR swaps. Analysts and traders also pointed to XMR’s break above the $410 resistance level as a bullish technical signal. The move is notable because Monero remains unavailable on major exchanges including Binance and Coinbase. It is still supported by platforms such as Kraken, KuCoin and MEXC. Recent exchange data from CoinGlass showed XMR outflows exceeding inflows, suggesting greater self-custody and potentially lower immediate selling pressure. However, Monero’s Relative Strength Index stood near 77, above the conventional overbought threshold of 70. This indicates that XMR could face a short-term correction after its rapid advance, despite the longer-term bullish momentum.
Bullish
The immediate market signal is bullish because XMR broke above a widely watched resistance level, gained 43% in a month and benefited from reported native swap support on THORChain. Exchange outflows also suggest that some holders are moving coins into self-custody, which can reduce near-term sell-side liquidity. The rally occurred despite Monero’s limited availability on major exchanges, indicating strong demand among existing market participants. However, the move is technically stretched. An RSI near 77 places XMR in overbought territory, increasing the risk of profit-taking and a short-term pullback. Similar sharp rallies in crypto markets often attract momentum traders before reversing when leveraged positions are closed or early buyers realise gains. Traders should monitor whether XMR holds the former $410 resistance as support, as well as volume, exchange flows and broader market sentiment. In the short term, the news may support continued momentum but also raise volatility and correction risk. Over the longer term, improved interoperability through THORChain could strengthen Monero’s utility and liquidity. Regulatory pressure, exchange delistings and limited access remain important risks. Overall, the fundamental and momentum signals lean bullish, but the overbought RSI argues against treating the rally as a low-risk entry.
