MoonPay to Acquire North Capital for Tokenized Securities
MoonPay has agreed to acquire North Capital Investment Technology in an all-stock deal aimed at expanding its tokenized securities and onchain capital markets business. The transaction remains subject to regulatory approval and other closing conditions, and financial terms have not been disclosed. Cointelegraph reported that the deal could be worth more than $60 million, but MoonPay has not confirmed that valuation.
North Capital operates SEC-registered broker-dealers, an alternative trading system, a transfer agent and an investment adviser. Its infrastructure supports capital raising, investor onboarding, custody, clearing, escrow and secondary trading for exempt and tokenized securities. Its PPEX platform lists more than 1,250 approved assets and has recorded 625,000 secondary trades. North Capital has processed more than $8.7 billion in primary and secondary transaction volume.
The acquisition would give MoonPay regulated infrastructure across the private-securities lifecycle, complementing its existing links between fiat currencies, stablecoins and crypto assets. Tokenized securities could benefit from stronger compliance and trading rails, but the deal has not closed. Its immediate effect on crypto prices and trading activity is therefore likely to be limited.
Neutral
The announcement is strategically positive for MoonPay’s expansion into regulated private markets and tokenized securities, but it is not an immediate catalyst for a cryptocurrency price. The transaction has not closed, requires regulatory approval and has no confirmed valuation. MoonPay is also a private company without a widely traded native token, so there is no direct listed asset for traders to reprice.
In the short term, traders may view the deal as supportive of the broader real-world asset and tokenization narrative. However, the absence of a completed transaction, near-term earnings impact or direct crypto exposure limits its influence on market stability. In the longer term, regulated issuance, custody and secondary-trading infrastructure could support wider adoption of tokenized assets and benefit related blockchain ecosystems. The effect would depend on execution, regulatory developments, transaction growth and actual investor demand. Similar infrastructure deals typically have a stronger sentiment impact than an immediate price impact.
