Morgan Stanley Sees Tokenized Assets Reaching $10T by 2030
Morgan Stanley digital asset strategy head Amy Oldenburg sees the tokenized asset market reaching $3 trillion to $10 trillion by 2030, well above the bank research team’s $2.3 trillion base case. Tokenized assets could include private shares, structured notes and funds, simplifying administration and potentially serving as collateral. The market was about $38.63 billion on October 1, excluding stablecoins, according to RWA.xyz.
Morgan Stanley has pushed its target for tokenized stock trading on its alternative trading system from the second half of 2026 to the first quarter of 2027. The bank is building trading and wallet infrastructure, but Oldenburg said limited suitable products are holding back client demand. Meanwhile, Securitize has launched blockchain trading for 12 major US stocks, and the DTCC is preparing a tokenization service with more than 50 financial institutions involved. Citi research found that 77% of financial institutions expected to use some form of tokenized collateral in 2026. The outlook signals growing institutional interest in tokenized assets, but the wide range of forecasts and delayed launch underline uncertainty. Adoption will depend on product supply, infrastructure and regulation, making this a long-term development rather than an immediate trading catalyst.
Neutral
The news does not identify a specific cryptocurrency whose price is directly affected, so the expected impact on crypto prices is neutral. In the short term, Morgan Stanley’s delayed launch and the limited supply of suitable products temper any immediate market catalyst; traders may view the announcement as a longer-term signal rather than a reason to reprice major tokens. Over the longer term, institutional adoption, tokenization infrastructure and potential collateral use could support broader blockchain activity and sentiment. However, the projections range widely, and actual uptake depends on product availability, regulation and implementation. As with past institutional adoption announcements, market impact may remain limited unless measurable transaction volumes or concrete launches follow.
