Morpho RWA Deposits Top $2B as Loans Near $900M
Morpho’s real-world asset (RWA) lending markets recorded $2.145 billion in deposits and $894.18 million in outstanding loans in an Oct. 28 snapshot. The figures show growing use of tokenized assets as collateral for onchain borrowing.
Private credit accounted for about 58% of Morpho RWA deposits in CertiK’s September analysis. Separate research from Sentora found that four large collateral positions—PRIME, PT-reUSD, syrupUSDG and PST—totaled $637 million, about 57.9% of the RWA collateral covered in its Oct. 1 dataset. Sentora also reported high borrower concentration in several markets, including PRIME and PST.
Morpho markets include loans backed by tokenized private credit and equities. Steakhouse Financial curated five USDC lending markets backed by Coinbase stock tokens, setting collateral requirements. Morpho’s documentation says curators set market parameters, while oracle prices and available liquidity affect liquidations. The protocol warns that price-feed failures or insufficient buyers can leave lenders exposed to losses or delayed withdrawals.
Morpho also enabled Robinhood Stock Token borrowing through curated markets. The service is unavailable to US persons and other restricted users. Overall, Morpho’s RWA growth points to rising demand for tokenized credit and equity-backed DeFi lending, alongside borrower concentration, valuation and liquidity risks.
Neutral
The news is neutral for the broader crypto market. Morpho’s $2.145 billion in RWA deposits and nearly $900 million in loans indicate meaningful demand for tokenized credit and equity-backed borrowing. This could support activity in DeFi lending and strengthen the case for bringing traditional assets onchain. However, the figures describe growth in one lending protocol, not a broad change in crypto prices or market-wide liquidity, so they do not establish a clear directional signal for BTC or other major assets.
In the short term, traders may watch Morpho deposits, loan growth, utilization and the prices of collateral tokens. Continued growth could improve sentiment around RWA and DeFi-related projects. Conversely, concentrated borrower positions, volatile collateral valuations, oracle failures or limited liquidity could increase liquidation and bad-debt concerns. Similar DeFi lending expansions have often been viewed positively while utilization and collateral values remained healthy, but stress in collateral markets has shown that rapid growth can magnify losses when liquidations cannot be completed efficiently.
Over the longer term, sustained RWA adoption could bring more lending activity and capital into onchain markets. Its durability will depend on reliable valuations, adequate liquidity, sound risk controls and access rules. The reported concentration and product-specific restrictions therefore temper the growth signal. Overall, this is constructive for Morpho’s RWA lending narrative, but its direct market impact is limited and the risk profile argues against treating it as an outright bullish catalyst.
