HYPE Is Multicoin Capital’s Largest Hedge-Fund Position
Multicoin Capital general partner Spencer Applebaum told Bloomberg that Hyperliquid’s HYPE is the firm’s largest hedge-fund holding. He did not disclose the position’s size. The firm said in June that HYPE was among its largest liquid-fund investments and had been accumulating the token since early 2026.
Multicoin’s thesis centres on Hyperliquid expanding beyond crypto derivatives into markets such as commodities and equity indexes. Its June research projected a range of $109 to $689 per HYPE by 2028, with a $319 base case. These are modelled scenarios, not updated forecasts or guaranteed returns.
On-chain reports said Multicoin-linked wallets transferred HYPE to Coinbase Prime, including 130,331 tokens worth $12.15 million on 24 September. Transfers to an institutional exchange do not confirm sales, and available data does not establish the fund’s current holdings. The disclosure signals strong institutional conviction in HYPE, but the absence of position-size and transaction details limits what traders can infer about near-term buying or selling.
Neutral
The disclosure is a positive signal for sentiment because HYPE is identified as Multicoin Capital’s largest hedge-fund position, reinforcing the firm’s conviction in Hyperliquid. However, it does not announce a new purchase, disclose the allocation size, or establish that earlier transfers to Coinbase Prime were sales. That makes the immediate trading signal less conclusive than a confirmed institutional buy.
In the short term, traders may react to the headline and monitor HYPE volume, price action and exchange flows. The Coinbase Prime transfers could prompt selling concerns, but custody or execution deposits alone do not prove tokens were sold. Broader crypto-market conditions and liquidity are likely to remain important drivers.
Over the longer term, HYPE’s performance may depend on whether Hyperliquid can grow beyond crypto derivatives into additional markets, alongside execution, regulation, competition and token supply risks identified by Multicoin. As with past reports of institutional accumulation, conviction can support sentiment, but price forecasts and portfolio disclosures do not guarantee future demand or returns. On balance, the news is neutral: it confirms a strong existing position but provides no clear evidence of fresh buying or selling.
