Stacks Founder Returns as CEO as Bitcoin Staking Grows
Stacks founder Muneeb Ali will return as CEO of Stacks Labs later this month, replacing interim CEO Alex Miller, who will become an adviser. The change follows the launch of Bitcoin staking and signals a shift from infrastructure development towards adoption and institutional expansion.
Ali founded Stacks in 2017 and has worked on Bitcoin since 2013. Institutional custodian Anchorage Digital is enabling institutional Bitcoin staking through Stacks. The project also works with 21Shares, UTXO Management, HashKey Cloud and Fireblocks, while its Genesis Bond launched with 250 BTC from four institutions.
Stacks plans to expand network capacity by 100 times, develop institutional-grade privacy and improve post-quantum security. It is also targeting institutional growth in Hong Kong, South Korea and the Middle East. Ali will discuss Bitcoin development at Token2049 Singapore on 7–8 October.
STX rose 28.8% in 24 hours to about $0.4039 after the leadership announcement. The return of Ali and continued Bitcoin staking expansion could support attention on Stacks and STX. However, the announcement provided no details on staking volumes, revenue or token economics, leaving room for short-term volatility and profit-taking.
Bullish
The news is bullish for STX because the founder’s return, the launch of Bitcoin staking and Anchorage Digital’s institutional integration may increase network activity, institutional visibility and demand for Stacks-based applications. The reported 28.8% rise in STX shows that traders initially viewed the announcement positively.
In the short term, the sharp price move could attract momentum traders but also increase volatility and profit-taking risk. The lack of disclosed staking volumes, revenue figures or changes to STX token economics limits the fundamental confirmation behind the rally. Over the longer term, a 100-fold capacity target, institutional privacy development, post-quantum security and expansion into Asian and Middle Eastern markets could strengthen the project’s investment narrative if execution delivers measurable adoption. Overall, the immediate price bias is bullish, but traders should monitor volume, staking growth and whether STX holds its post-announcement gains.
