OpenAI Launches GPT-6.1 Terra at Half the API Price
OpenAI has launched GPT-6.1 Terra, an upgrade to its everyday AI model, with standard API prices 50% below GPT-5.6 Terra. The model is rolling out to Plus, Pro, Enterprise and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex, and is available to developers as gpt-6.1-terra.
OpenAI says GPT-6.1 Terra is faster and more accurate at computer-based tasks. In the company’s internal factual-error test, its error rate fell from 53.6% to 16.7% at low reasoning effort, and to 4.3% at maximum effort. On Terminal-Bench 4.0, it completed 50.3% of tasks at maximum effort, compared with 21.5% for GPT-5.6 Terra. OpenAI says the model also finishes tasks more than three times faster on average than GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol.
The performance figures come from OpenAI’s own tests. The company positions GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Astra for more complex research and coding, while free users can access the lower-tier GPT-5.6 Luna.
Neutral
The announcement has no direct connection to cryptocurrency prices, blockchain networks or digital-asset regulation, so its immediate market impact is likely neutral. The lower API price and OpenAI’s reported performance gains may influence competition among AI companies and could affect sentiment around AI-related technology stocks or tokens, but the article provides no evidence of a specific crypto project, token or trading catalyst.
In the short term, traders may respond to broader AI-sector sentiment, particularly if the launch prompts moves in AI-linked assets. Any such reaction would likely be indirect and depend on wider market conditions, liquidity and news about individual projects. Unlike announcements of major crypto exchange listings, protocol upgrades or regulatory decisions, this release does not itself change token supply, network activity or market access.
Over the longer term, cheaper and more capable AI tools could support interest in projects that combine AI and blockchain. However, that remains a general sector possibility rather than a clear implication of this release. OpenAI’s performance figures are based on its own tests, which traders should consider when assessing claims about model capabilities. Overall, the news is unlikely to materially alter crypto market stability or establish a directional trend on its own.
