Polymarket Tests Protocol V2 With pUSD for New Markets
Polymarket began production canary testing Protocol V2 on October 5. The trial is scheduled to run through October 30, with November 2 tentatively set for new markets to begin using the upgraded system. No broader migration plan for existing markets has been announced; they can continue settling through their original contracts.
The Polymarket Protocol V2 upgrade rebuilds the prediction market’s smart-contract infrastructure. It unifies positions through ERC-1155, standardizes pUSD as collateral for new markets, and updates routing and oracle components. Polymarket says pUSD is an ERC-20 token on Polygon backed 1:1 by USDC. V2 is designed to support Binary, Atomic Neg-risk, Incremental Neg-risk and Combinatorial markets, with an OracleAggregator intended to connect resolution sources including UMA and Chainlink. The code has undergone several audits and formal verification by Certora.
For traders, this is primarily an infrastructure change, not a user-interface overhaul or a direct token catalyst. The near-term focus is whether testing proceeds smoothly and whether the tentative launch date holds. A successful rollout could support platform growth and more complex prediction markets, while the limited immediate market impact may leave trading activity largely unchanged.
Neutral
The upgrade does not directly change the price outlook for a widely traded cryptocurrency, and the reports describe it as an infrastructure rollout rather than a token-related announcement. The trial may attract attention to Polymarket, but no immediate change to trading interfaces or existing market settlement is indicated. In the short term, traders are more likely to watch the canary test and November 2 target than to reprice major tokens based on this news alone. Over the longer term, a successful rollout could improve Polymarket’s capacity to support varied and more complex prediction markets. That may benefit platform usage, but the summaries provide no clear mechanism linking it to a direct price move in USDC, POL, UMA, LINK or another named token. The expected price impact on the mentioned cryptocurrencies is therefore neutral.
