Qubic Exploit Drains 2.94T QU; Network and Trading Halted

Qubic said weak wallet seed generation—not a flaw in its blockchain protocol—allowed an attacker to drain about 2.94 trillion QU, worth roughly $1.3 million, from 1,404 wallets between 17 and 18 October. The vulnerable seeds were generated on some older Apple devices and in browsers. Qubic said the issue was fixed in version 4.26.4, and developers secured other funds at risk before they could be moved. Validators halted the Qubic network at tick 85,371,949 after detecting unauthorised transfers. About 87.1% of the stolen QU remains frozen on the paused network; the other 12.9% was sent to MEXC and frozen there. Bitget and other exchanges suspended QUBIC deposits and withdrawals. Qubic’s Computor quorum will decide how to handle compensation, while QEARN staking was not affected. The Qubic exploit puts near-term pressure on confidence in wallet security and network reliability, while the pause and exchange restrictions limit trading access. The impact on QU may remain negative until the network resumes and a recovery plan is clarified.
Bearish
The immediate effect is negative for QU. A theft affecting 1,404 wallets, a halted network and suspended exchange deposits and withdrawals can undermine confidence, reduce liquidity and make it harder for traders to enter or exit positions. Although most stolen funds remain frozen and MEXC froze the remainder sent to it, those steps do not remove uncertainty over recovery or compensation. Traders may respond with selling or stay sidelined until transfers resume and the Computor quorum clarifies its plan. Over the longer term, the impact will depend on whether Qubic can demonstrate that the seed-generation flaw is fixed, restore normal network operations and provide a credible resolution for affected users. Successful remediation could help rebuild confidence, but further delays, unclear compensation or renewed security concerns could prolong pressure on QU. QEARN staking was reportedly unaffected, but that does not offset the broader concerns around Qubic’s wallet security and trading access.
