Revolut Wins Gibraltar Crypto Licence for Global Expansion
Revolut’s Gibraltar subsidiary, Revolut Global Digital Assets Limited, has received a Distributed Ledger Technology Provider licence from the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission. The Gibraltar crypto licence allows it to transmit and execute virtual-asset orders, provide custody and offer staking services, giving the fintech a regulated base for potential international expansion. Revolut has not named target markets or launch dates, and the new authorisation does not replace its existing UK and European Economic Area regulatory arrangements, where its crypto services are subject to MiCA. The company says it has more than 80 million retail customers worldwide, including about 16 million crypto users, and has previously received preliminary crypto-related authorisations in Dubai and the US. Separately, Gibraltar’s government said Revolut has resumed onboarding local residents to its electronic-money and payments app; no launch timing was given for the newly licensed crypto services.
Neutral
The licence expands Revolut’s regulated capacity to offer crypto trading-related services, custody and staking, and could support broader access to digital assets over time. However, no specific launch markets, dates or user targets have been announced, so the near-term effect on cryptocurrency prices is likely limited. The news does not identify or directly affect any particular token, and regulatory approval alone does not establish increased demand or trading activity. In the longer term, wider availability could support adoption, but any market impact would depend on actual launches, customer uptake and broader market conditions. For the price of any individual cryptocurrency, the expected impact is therefore neutral.
